GS-AIS
Software Engineer to join a team responsible for development, maintenance and support of web applications, data warehouses, computing infrastructure and tools of the Advanced Information Systems group at CERN.
The software development uses the most modern frameworks on the Java Enterprise platform interfacing with an Oracle database.
The candidate will participate in all stages of the software development life cycle with its corresponding milestones (requirements analysis, design, coding, testing and maintenance).
Software development in the team is using agile techniques (scrum, etc) and coaching would be provided.
Good knowledge of some or all of the technologies we use (Java, Spring, Hibernate, GWT, SQL, PL/SQL) would be an advantage.

IT-DB-IMS
The section has responsibility for 2 main tasks:
-
run application server infrastructure (WebLogic, iAS, tomcat etc) for administration (GS-AIS), EDMS (engineering), CS (network).
-
maintain server infrastructure of IT-DB (200 Oracle instances)
Your project:
-
continue migration from Oracle application servers to WebLogic. This quite wide area, it requires very good understanding of j2ee application server, help users with very different problems, keep development of various tool used for Weblogic management (Jython, perl).
-
prepare migration of APEX to ver 4. This will require re-write of many component due to change of underlying application server.
-
Development & maintenance of SysControl application It's the system that allows management of all servers in IT-DB. It's developed in perl, APEX, SQL.
In general good understanding of web infrastructure is required for all the tasks. Most application/scripts are in PERL, all systems are Linux (RedHat 4 & 5).

IT-OIS
CERN Search Project (Software Engineer):
The IT-OIS group is in charge of providing central authentication, desktop, email and web services for the CERN users’ community. We are providing 18000 mailboxes, 12000 mailing lists along with 12000 Websites including 1500 SharePoint collaborative sites.
The Project Associate will work in the context of the CERN Search project, as part of the CERN Web Services, and participate in the implementation and evolution of a CERN wide search solution where you will amongst other tasks identify and make available additional information repositories such as support knowledge bases, administrative and engineering documents etc.
The Project Associate will also collaborate with the corresponding teams of document providers to implement the required interfaces to their document collections. Furthermore, it will be essential to define guidelines and standards (quality metrics) to ensure the efficiency and quality of the search and to provide support for the CERN search service.
The Project Associate will gain experience with the integration of recent information access technologies and with the development of web based applications. He will also have the opportunity to develop skills in the management of a large web infrastructure based on widely adopted technologies and products (Windows, .Net, SharePoint and Python).

IP Telephony Project (Telecommunications Engineer):
The IT-OIS group is in charge of providing central authentication, desktop, email and web services for the CERN users’ community. Providing 18000 mailboxes, 12000 mailing lists along with 1500 SharePoint collaborative sites, the team needs to improve those servicesand also focus on a new IP Telephony system based on emerging telephony software solutions.
The selected person will participate in activities related to mail infrastructure and e-groups system providing mailing lists, and will be particularly involved in the design and setup of a pilot IP telephony service targeting a CERN wide usage.

GS-ASE
The selected candidate will join the EDMS support team in the GS/ASE group and participate in internal support, consulting and training activities for the provided applications in the Engineering & Equipment Data Management System (EDMS) suite.
The EDMS ensures that engineering and equipment data as well as documentation for projects and installations are safeguarded, organized, verified and remain retrievable on a long-term basis. This unique platform is one of the largest and most advanced installations of its kind and is both used by CERN and its world-wide business partners, corresponding to over 6000 users in total.
The assigned tasks will comprise first- and second-line support to users of this platform as well as more in-depth investigations of how the tools can be configured in order to better match the business processes of individual projects and organizational units This includes also preparing user documentation and training material in order to allow people to efficiently use our provided tools.
The proposed job implies extensive use of a wide range of both in-house-developed and commercial information systems that all are based on databases. Therefore a basic knowledge of databases and general reporting capabilities are required to fully understand the capabilities and limitations on the underlying information system infrastructure.
Since a vital part of this job is the communication with users, the selected candidate must like and find it interesting to interact with people on a daily basis in order to understand their problems, analyze their needs and propose adequate solutions.
